Mission Statement

Since the inception of Glendale Community College Athletics, a stratospheric tradition has been established and continues to flourish in the present. The Glendale Community College Athletic Training Staff holds this tradition with the highest regard and will continue to always stride to maintain the standard that has been laid forth.

Each and every student-athlete that enters the facility will receive the best care possible and with all the resources that are available to provide the speediest recovery possible.

Jose J. Gomez, A.T. is a well-established staff member and adjunct instructor at Glendale Community College. Jose has a variety of experiences at the high school, collegiate, professional, and international levels. Some of the teams and organizations he has worked with are the Los Angeles Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers, and Miami Dolphins, as well as athletes competing in the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. He obtained his bachelor’s degree from Cal State Fullerton and his master’s from Azusa Pacific University.

Claudia Orejuela, A.T. has been part of the Vaquero family since 1996 as a student-athlete. She was on the inaugural women’s soccer team and was also on the women’s basketball team. After obtaining her A.A. at Glendale College she transferred to Cal State Northridge, where she was on the women’s soccer team and graduated with a B.S. in Kinesiology. She returned to Glendale as a health care professional with special insight as a former college athlete. She earned her master’s degree from Cal State Long Beach.  Claudia is happily married and a mother to a loving boy.

Meet Your Team Physician

Jack Yu, M.D.

For over twenty-five (25) years he has been the team physician for Glendale Community College Athletics. Dr. Yu has become an integral part of the athletic department and has worked closely with the athletic trainers providing his expertise. Dr. Yu is a graduate of Boston University Medical School. He completed his residency at UCLA. His affiliations include The American Geriatric Society, The Christian Medical and Dental Association and The Society of Teachers of Family Practice. Dr. Yu came to Glendale Adventist FMRP in 1990 and his roles include coordination of the Geriatrics and Sports Medicine curriculums. Dr. Yu is a past president of the Los Angeles Chapter of the AAFP. He is currently board certified in geriatrics, hospice and palliative medicine, and sports medicine. Yu has twice been named "Teacher of the Year" by FMRP residents. He is married and has two darling daughters.

Meet Your Team Orthopaedics 

Dr. Owens and Dr. Geller have become an asset to the Glendale Community College Athletic Program and to the athletic training staff. In just one full season they have become like one of the Vaquero family.  Speaking of family, Dr. Geller was born and raised in Glendale and Dr. Owens found it suitable to raise a family and open his practice.  We are very excited and honored to have them part of our staff and looking forward to a lasting relationship.
