Baseball claims 7-1 and 20-6 wins over Cerritos; New Head Coach Alex Kocol gets first wins

Interim Head Baseball Coach Alex Kocol claimed his first career win as he piloted the Vaqs to a 7-1 win in their home opener Tuesday January 29, a 7-1 win over Cerritos at Stengel Field. GCC followed that up with a 20-6 win at Cerritos Wednesday to improve to 2-1 this season.

In the 7-1 win over Cerritos, Casey Slattery homered twice and drove in three runs and Tom Tabak had three singles and scored twice. Starting pitcher Gerrado Ramirez got the win with his five innings of work as he struck out four and allowed just two hits. Kyle Nicol finished up the game with two strong innings striking out three and allowing just one walk.

In the 20-6 win Wednesday, GCC scored in every inning but the eighth and pounded out 17 hits and Struck out just six times in 50 at bats. Tabak led the team with another three hits and has six hits in his last 10 at bats. Christian Muro, Casey Slattery and Trent MacKinney all had two hits each with Muro and Slattery hitting two doubles each as the Vaqs had seven two baggers on the day.

Edgardo Montanez pitched a strong four innings in relief of starter Ethan Durant and Kevin Holcomb Got the win in relief.

Glendale switched sites for Friday's game against East L.A. and will play on the road and then they return To Cerritos Saturday for a noon start, weather permitting.
