GCC wins 6th straight on Trent MacKinney's walk off homer, 6-4 over Antelope Valley

Another day, another win and another hero for the surging GCC Baseball Team. Saturday March 23 it was freshman Trent MacKinney who hit a walk off two run homer in the bottom of the 12th inning to give Glendale a come from behind 6-4 win over visiting Barstow that gave the Vaqs a four game sweep of the WSC East series and a one game lead in the conference standings. They are 7-1 in WSC East play, 16-8 overall and are ranked No/ 10 in the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association Poll from March 19.

Trailing 4-0 in the fourth inning, Glendale scored single runs in the fifth, sixth, eighth and ninth innings to tie the game at 4-4 setting the stage for MacKinney's heroics on his second hit of the game in the 12th inning and third RBI. Christian Muro, Alex Mills, Lucas Sakay and Tom Tabak also had two hits each for the Vaqs who totaled 11 on the game. Sakay also had a double, the only other extra base hits for the Vaqs.

Glendale used five pitchers including Kyle Nicol, Gerardo Ramirez, Edgardo Montanez, Guillermo Pinedo who went six innings and game winner Jorge Puig who allowed just one hits in his three innings of work.

The results of the last three wins before Saturday are as follows:

 ·        March 16-Glendale beat Victor Valley 20-6

·         March 19-Glendale beat Barstow 15-4

·         March 21-Beat Barstow 11-6 (called because of rain after seven innings)

Glendale continues WSC East play this week with three games against Antelope Valley College, Tuesday March 26 at 2:30 pm, Thursday vs AV at home at Stengel Field, 2:30 pm and at AV Saturday March 30, 1 pm.
