20-1 drubbing of Citrus clinches WSC East Tie for Glendale

In what is believed to be a school record, the GCC Baseball Team hit the 20 run plateau for the fifth time this season in a 20-1 victory over Citrus College Friday April 12 at Stengel Field.

The win clinched at least a tie for the 2019 WSC East Tile for the Vaqueros and they will have a chance to win the championship outright during a three game series against Victor Valley College starting Tuesday April 23. The championship would be the seventh for GCC since 2011 with the team celebrating titles in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2018 and the 2019 title would be the first for interim head coach Alex Kocol.

Glendale banged out 19 hits Friday in support of starting pitcher Dexter Wilkerson who stuck out six and allowed just three hits in his six innings of work. Reece Matheisen, Ethan Durant and Luke Hempel all pitched each in relief of Wilkerson.

The Vaqs hit parade was led by Casey Slattery, Michael Choi and Lucas Sakay who all had three hits each and four other hitters had two hits each. Slattery also homered twice and drove in four runs and Brandon Lewis also went deep and drove in four runs.

Glendale will play four non-conference games next week during spring break starting with a home nod Tuesday April 16 at 3 pm against Ventura College at Stengel Field.  They also play at5 L.A. Mission Wednesday April 17 at 2 pm, play at Compton Thursday  April 18 at 1 pm and play at Cypress Friday April 19 at 2:30 pm.
