Glendale beats Victor Valley 12-6; wins 2019 WSC East Title for seventh time in last nine years

On a perfect spring day, the 2019 Glendale College Baseball Team won its 25th game of the season with a 12-6 nod over Victor Valley College and clinched the Western State Conference East Baseball Title, its seventh in the past nine years and 13th overall since 1980. They did it with timely hitting and pitching and solid defense, trademarks of the kind of season it has been for first year interim head coach Alex Kocol who has guided his squad to the championship with two WSC games left to play against the Rams and have a 14-4 record.

Glendale led 5-0 in the second inning but led by only one when the Rams rolled four in the third and fourth innings to trail only 5-4 but GCC came back with six in the bottom half of the inning to lead 11-4.

Sophomore Tom Tabak led the Vaqs with three hits and Trent MacKinney, Christian Muro, Casey Slattery and Alex Mills all had two hits each. Christian Muro, Hans Seo, Brandon Lewis, Michael Choi, and Slattery all had doubles with Slattery driving in three runs. Starting pitcher Gerrardo Ramirez and relievers Edgardo Montanez, Guillermo Pinedo, Kevin Holcomb scattered 11 hits.

The Vaqs end the regular season at Victor Valley Thursday April 25 and end their home regular season Friday April 26 at 2:30 pm at Stengel Field.
