Glendale sweeps San Diego Mesa in Super Regionals; Advances to Southern California Sectionals

The Glendale College Baseball Team continues to carve up the competition in the CCCAA baseball playoffs as they completed a two game sweep off visiting San Diego Mesa College with a 12-3 win over  the Olympians after posting an 11 inning 8-7 win Thursday. GCC, 30-15, was seeded No. 4 in this Super Regional matchup while San Diego Mesa , the No. 7 seed, finished the season 28-15-1.

In a series that saw the Vaqs pound out 32 hits in just two games, GCC needed no heroics on this day after Hans Seo hit a walk off homer in the bottom of the 11th inning to preserve the 8-7  Glendale win Thursday. Glendale jumped out to an 8-0 lead over Mesa and PCAC Player of the Year Kobby Lopez as the freshman lefthander struggled with allowing eight runs on nine hits in his five innings of work but six errors by the Olympians did not help their cause.

Christian Muro led the GCC hit parade with three hits in support of starter Kyle Nicol and relievers Dexter Wilkerson and Kevin Holcomb who allowed a combined eight hits and three runs. Muro , Seo, Casey Slattery, Alex Mills and Lucas Sakay all hit doubles for the Vaqs with pinch hitter Hayden Luff going deep in the ninth inning for a solo homer in his only plater appearance of the game.

Glendale will have to wait until Sunday to determine is next round opponent when the format for the sectionals is selected after any games Saturday.
