The 2022 season could not have started any better for the GCC Baseball Team. They won three games in three days last week, 11-6 over San Diego Mesa Thursday Jan. 27, 5-3 over East Los Angeles Friday Jan. 28 and 9-6 over L.A. Pierce Saturday Jan. 29.

While this is basically a new team, the three victories showcased phases of the game that have become yearly strengths of Vaquero Baseball: timely hitting and solid pitching as well as aggressive base running and a stingy defense.

In the win over Pierce Saturday, the Vaqs pounded out 14 hits in support of starter and winning pitcher Kenji Pallares, who scattered four hits in his five innings of work. GCC started off fast offensively in the first inning when leadoff hitter Brandon Nguyen hit a solo homer followed by a solo shot by No. 2 hitter Aaron Suval that gave Glendale two of their three runs in the first inning.

Nguyen helped paced GCC on offense with three hits while Suval had two hits including a double and scored three runs. Will Cheathman also had two hits including a double, Alex Mills had two hits, three RBI as well as a sacrifice fly and a stolen base, Izzy Madariaga had two hits and a double and Brandon Hernandez had a pinch-hit double.

Glendale hits the road for the first two games of the week Tuesday at Oxnard Feb. 1 and at Ventura Thursday Feb. 4, both games starting at 2 pm. GCC hosts Palomar Friday Feb. 4 at 2 pm and Ventura Saturday at noon with both games at Stengel Field.
