Glendale makes most of scoring chances in 37-13 win over Victor Valley College Sept. 14
It will go down in the books as a win but the GCC Football Team may have discovered more than the ability to score points in the 37-13 season-opening win over Victor Vallery College Sept. 14 at Sartoris Field.

Despite running fewer offensive plays than the visiting Rams, 65 to 70, and accumulating fewer yards of total offense, 200 to 256, the Vaqs scored five times in the red zone and swarmed the visitors on defense and special teams to control the game.

Quarterback Jackson Askins passed for 140 yards on 21 of 28 and two scores as he completed passes to nine different receivers on the day. One of the highlights of the afternoon was an 81-yard punt return for a touchdown by Jake Wisener in the second quarter to make the score 21-7 in the moments after Wisener scored on a seven-yard pass play from Askins. Four defenders had more than 10 tackles for the Vaqs led by Colin Farhberger who led the team with 11 along with Elijah Gipson, Farhberger also had one tackle for a loss, one pass breakup, and two blocked kicks.
