The GCC Football Team scored early and often in its 70-16 win on the road Saturday, Sept. 28 against Compton College. They led 28-0 after the first quarter, 42-8 at halftime and 63-16 after three quarters to win and improve to 2-1 this season.
Glendale totaled 345 yards of total offense on a day where they rushed for 175 yards and passed for 170 and had 25 first downs. Alonzo Fuentes-Gutierrez led the ground game with 96 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries and Jaiden Saturn Foster had 37 yards on four carries. Starting quarterback Jackson Askins passed for 134 yards and three touchdowns on 10 completions in 11 attempts and backup Alven Martinez was 2 of 3 for 26 yards. Jason Sanford Jr. caught four passes for 70 yards and two scores, Shade Schaefer caught three balls for 38 yards and Mycah Pasten had a 13-yard TD reception with his one catch. Kicker Paolo Sosa scored 10 points with 10 successful extra-point kicks.
Defensively, Elijah Gipson, Brooklyn Pasten, and Isaac Robinson all had interceptions and Brooklyn Pasten led the team with nine tackles. Colin Farhberger added seven tackles, one tackle for a loss and one forced fumble and Southern California Football Association Defensive Player of the Week Dario Sandoval had six tackles, 2.5 tackles for a loss and 2 sacks.
Glendale returns home to Sartoris Field Saturday Oct. 5 for a 12 pm home game against West Los Angeles College.
