Matthews scores 26 but GCC falls

Jordan Matthews led Glendale with 26 points but the Vaqueros fell to Long Beach 83-77 Wednesday in an opening round game of the Chaffey Tournament.
 
Serigne Athj added 20 points on eight of eight shooting from the field and three of three from the 3-point line to help pace GCC. Chris Daniels added 19. Frank Irowa and Athj had five rebounds each and Matthews added five assists.
 
Glendale, now 5-10, plays College of the Desert Thursday at noon in a consolation bracket game.
