GCC ends regular season with 1-1 tie against Bakersfield and 3-2 win over Canyons; finish in third place in WSC South
The conclusion of the 2022 Glendale College Men's Soccer regular season showed how much grit the Vaqueros could play with, tying Western State Conference South leading Bakersfield 1-1 on a cold and rainy night at Sartoris Field Tuesday, Nov. 8 and beating College of the Canyons 3-2 Friday, Nov. 11.
The Vaqueros finished the season in third place at 3-3-2 in WSC play and 8-10-3 overall but played with purpose and determination in coming from behind in both games, tying the Bakersfield game at 1-1 on the only goal of the season by Malkoon Malkoon at the 64:35 mark of the game. Trailing 2-0 in the game against COC, John Crispi scored his ninth goal of the year at 31:14 to cut the lead in half at 2-1 and Luis Zepeda's fourth goal at 58:10 of the second half made it 2-2 and then Derik Stepanians scored the game winner at 77 minutes, his 12th goal of the year to make it 3-2 Glendale.
Sophomore goalie Mario Trujillo had 10 saves against Bakersfield and three against Canyons to give him 75 in conference and a state leading 175 for the season to go along with five shutouts.
