GCC Cross Country Teams qualify for state meet; Samantha Medrano medals in 9th place

The Cross Country teams competed at the Southern California Regional Championships this past Friday at Bakersfield. The women took fourth place, 2 points behind Bakersfield for third, scoring a total of 147 points. Samantha Medrano led the way taking ninth place in a time of 18:45. She was followed by Destiny Lopez who took 18th place in a time of 19:09, Aleksandra Martinez who took 38th in a time of 19:51, Carina Langley who came across in 45th place in a time of 20:11, and Norma Martinez who crossed the finish line in 71st place in a time of 21:21, rounding out the scoring runners. Daniela Ponce-Barban continued her PR streak taking 115th place in a time of 23:52.

The men took fifth place, scoring a total of 162 points. They were led by Julius Largaespada who took 17th place in a time of 20:19. He was followed by Nicolas Diconti who took 28th place in a time of 20:35 and Jorge Ramirez who took 30th place in a time of 20:38. Rounding out the five scoring runners were Abdiel Quero (20:53) who took 43rd and Kevin Vasquez (20:54) who took 44th place. Austin Kuromi came across the finish line in 63rd place in a time of 21:30, with Jeremiah Galloway taking 72nd in a time of 21:48. The team will have a bye week and then travel up north to Fresno for the State Championships at Woodward Park on Saturday, November 19.
