GCC Women's Softball wins epic game against L.A. Harbor College, 17-15 in 8 innings April 2

A narrow first game loss nor a depleted pitching staff was enough to deter the GCC Women's Softball Team Saturday April 2 in the second game of a doubleheader at L.A Harbor College. The Lady Vaqs jumped out to an 8-0 third inning lead, saw the home team force extra innings after tying the game at 11-11 after seven innings and hung on to win 17-15 in eight innings after dropping the first game of the double bill 6-5.

While the high scoring game provided a lot of offensive fireworks, the play of the game was made with two outs by leftfielder Elissa Romero with two runners on base and the winning run at the plate when she snared a line drive before it hit the wall for the final out of the game to ensure the GCC win.

The box score will show that Glendale had 17 hits in the game and were led by Cambria Rems, who had four hits including a pair of doubles, scored three times and drove in four runs. Triniti Akau, Xiana Villalobos and Zuhaley Villaverde had three hits each with Villaverde also driving in three runs. Rachelle Garcia had a pair of doubles and four RBI.

Now 9-22 overall and 1-5 in WSC South play, Glendale returns home to host two conference games this week, Tuesday April 5 against Antelope Valley College and Thursday April 7 against Citrus College. Both games start at 2:30 pm at the Glendale Sports Complex.
