Glendale freshman Sylvia Vartazarian scored 18 points and pulled down 16 rebounds to lead the Vaqueros to a 65-56 win over L.A. Harbor College Wednesday Dec. 13 in the Verdugo Gym.
It was a game of runs early as the Lady Vaqs ticked off an 8-0 spurt to lead 17-8 after the first quarter and an 11-0 run in the second quarter and shooting 75 percent from the field paced them to a 38-21 lead at halftime. The 50 percent shooting percentage was fueled by a 28-7 rebound advantage through the first tow quarters.
The visitors from Harbor trimmed the lead to 50-34 after three quarters and even cut the lead to 61-56 with a few minutes left before GCC got a basket and a pair of free throws from Cheyenne Jankulovski to ice the game. Jankulovski finished with 11 points, six boards and four assists to help the Vaqueros improved to 7-3 with the win.
Glendale hosts Copper Mountain, L.A. Southwest and Riverside in a four game mini tournament Dec. 20-21 in the Verdugo Gym,
