GCC Women's Basketball beat Citrus 64-55; Takes first place in WSC East

A tight game for three quarters turned into 10 minutes of frenzied fourth quarter action that resulted in a 64-55 win for the GCC Women's Basketball Team Wednesday Jan. 23  at Citrus College. GCC is now 2-0 in WSC play and 14-4 overall. They were ranked No. 20 in the state and No. 11 in Southern California in the January 14 CCCAA Poll.

Three Glendale played scored in double figures paced by Sylvia Vatazarian with 15 points, Tess Oakley-Stilson with 13 and Cheyenne Jankulovski with 10. Penelopi Trieu added nine points, all on three pointers where she was three for three. The Lady Vaqs shot 49 percent from the field,  42 percent from the three point line and 87 percent from the free throw line.

The game was tied 27 al at the half and 43 all after three quarters but GCC gained the advantage by outscoring the Owls 21-12 in the final 10 minutes.

Glendale continues WSC play Saturday Jan. 26 with a home game against Antelope Valley College at 5 pm in the Verdugo Gym.
