A poor shooting performance and the loss of one of its best players early in the contest slowed Saturday's Western State Conference East matchup against L.A. Valley College but the Lady Vaqs prevailed with a late run to beat the Monarchs 45-37. The win for Glendale was its sixth straight as they improved its hold on first place in the WSC East with a 6-0 mark and is 17-4 overall.

Sophomore guard Cheyenne Jankulovski left the game after playing just nine minutes in the first half and was later taken from the gym with a medical emergency and did not return.

Glendale led 20-15 at the half but Valley closed the gap and led the contest 33-31 in the fourth quarter before GCC took control with an 8-0 run that gave them the lead for good. Tess Oakley-Stilson led all scorers with 13 points and Sylvia Vartazarian and Penelopi Trieu had 10 each to pace the Lady Vaqs. Marlene Salazar led the team with 12 rebounds and Vartazarian added nine.

Glendale has a bye Wednesday Feb. 6 and plays at Barstow Feb. 9 at 5 pm.
