Tess Oakley-Stilson leads GCC Women's Basketball to fifth place finish in Merced Tournament

Sophomore Tess Oakley-Stilson scored 28 points on 9 of 20 from the field to lead the GCC Women's Basketball Team to a 64-55 win over Santa Rosa Saturday in the fifth place game of the Merced College Tournament Nov. 7-9. GCC fell to Fresno 70-60 in the first round matchup Thursday but rebounded to beat Porterville 69-38 Friday.

Now 2-1 this season, the Lady Vaqs led Santa Rosa 31-26 at halftime as Vicky Oganyan added 10 points in support of GCC as Oakley-Stilson, an all-tournament selection for Glendale, added six rebounds and four assists to her stat line Saturday as she also made 10 free throws out of 14 from the line. Polina Kovaleva added eight points for GCC and Penelopi Trieu had seven.

Glendale hosts its Crossover Tournament Thursday and Friday this week with the home team facing Cypress at 7 pm Thursday Nov. 14 and San Bernardino Valley College Friday at 7 pm in the Verdugo Gym.
