In a battle of crosstown rivals and two of the top ranked steams in the state and Southern California, the GCC Women's Basketball team combined a fast start with a solid finish to beat visiting Pasadena City College 71-61 Saturday Jan. 4 in the Verdugo Gym. Glendale is ranked No. 7 in the state and 4th in Southern California while Pasadena is 13th in state and seventh in Southern California.

The Lady Vaqs, now 13-1 after its 13th straight win, led 24-13 after the first quarter and 38-32 at the half thanks to the hot shooting of sophomore guard Zoe Rouse who hit six of 10 three pointers on her way to a 20 point first half. But sophomore Tess Oakley-Stilson hit three timely three pointers in the second half to finish with 17 points to help keep the Lancers at bay.

Penelopi Trieu also had 17 points and six assists for GCC while Oakley-Stilson led the team with six boards and Gloria Bianchi added five boards and three steals off the bench.

The defending WSC Champion Lady Vaqs start conference play Wednesday Jan. 8 at West L.A. College at 5 pm and host L.A. Valley College at 3 pm Saturday Jan. 11.
