On a night when its shots were not falling, the GCC Women's Basketball Team found that a stingy defense and a decided advantage on the boards helped them out of a first half rut and outscore visiting San Diego City College 39-16 in the second half to win decidedly 59-40 Tuesday Dec. 6 in the Verdugo Gym.

Trailing 24-20 at the start of the third quarter, Glendale reeled off 10 straight points to lead 30-24 and got their transition defense in gear as they outscored the visiting Knights 20-5 via turnovers and used their second chance points advantage of 26-2 and rebound advantage of 44-27 to keep the visitors on their heels. Kaitlynn Key led the defensive effort with 13 rebounds, seven on the offensive boards and 11 points and Faith Boulanger added 11 points and eight rebounds, five on the offensive glass where the Lady Vaqs held a 23-6 advantage. Maile Yamada added 10 points and a game high eight assists.

Now 6-2, Glendale plays next in the Allan Hancock College Crossover event Dec. 9-10 in Santa Maria and will face the host school, Allan Hancock at 5 pm Friday and Cuesta College at 1 pm Saturday.
