GCC Women's Basketball on the verge of WSC South Title with 72-65 win over College of the Canyons Feb. 15

 
Following the introductions of eight sophomores before the final regular season game of the year, Feb. 15 in the Verdugo Gym, the GCC Women's Basketball Team won its seventh straight game over College of the Canyons 72-65 to secure at least a tie for its fourth consecutive conference title.
 
Now 22-5 overall and 12-1 in the WSC South with a one game lead and one game left to play, the Lady Vaqs led almost wire to wire against the visiting Cougars who handed GCC its only conference loss, 68-67 in overtime on Jan. 21. Jesni Cooper had a solid game for the home squad with 18 points and six rebounds as four GCC players scored in double figures. Maile Yamada had 17 points, five rebounds and four assists. Faith Boulanger had 14 points and five rebounds and Megan Delgado had 13 points off the bench, a team high seven rebounds and hit three of Glendale's 11 3-pointers in the game.
 
Glendale finishes the 2022-23 regular season Friday, Feb. 17 at Antelope Valley College at 5 p.m. A victory over the Marauders would give GCC a fourth straight WSC South title, and the fourth in six years for Head Coach Joel Weiss.
