A dominant third quarter by the GCC Women's Basketball team Thursday Nov. 2 turned a close game into a one-sided victory for the Lady Vaqs, 64-45 at Cerritos College in the season opener for both teams. Glendale led 29-22 at halftime but outscored the host Falcons 23-9 in the third 10-minute stanza to coast to the win.
Malia Ulery led GCC in scoring with 22 points on nine of 19 from the field that included hitting four 3-pointers and tying for the team lead in rebounds with nine with Osanna Tirityan. Tirityan added 11 points, Lisette Meza had eight points, Evelyn Birau had six and Krystal Pineda had five points. Kaitlynn Key added six boards and Meza, Pineda and Cherilyn Legaspi had four rebounds each and Legaspi added four assists.
Glendale plays a pair of non-conference games at home next week in the Verdugo Gym against Santa Barbara City College Thursday Nov, 9 and against San Diego Mesa College Friday Nov. 10. Both games start at 5 pm.
