GCC Women's Basketball improves to 3-0 with a pair of home wins Nov. 9-10
As the 2023-24 season continues for the GCC Women's Basketball team, they might look back on the games of November 9-10 as key games in their development process. After beating visiting Santa Barbara City College 55-35 on Thursday Nov. 9, the Lady Vaqs showed the kind of grit and determination that should serve them well in the future in the 66-65 win over San Diego Mesa College Nov.10 in the Verdugo Gym.

Now 3-0, GCC and the Olympians from San Diego battled to a 22-22 tie in the first quarter with the home squad leading just 38-36 at the half thanks to 18 points from freshman Malia Ulery who hit four 3-pointers in the first two quarters including three straight in the early stages of the first quarter. After a tight third quarter that had both teams score just nine points each, GCC created enough of a cushion in the last period to outlast the visitors that saw both teams miss critical free throws with just seconds left in the game.

Malia Ulery had game highs in scoring with 24 points and hist six 3-pointers as four GCC players scored in double figures and she also had a game high 10 rebounds. Evelyn Birau added 13 points and eight rebounds and Osanna Tirityan and Paola Gorgeiz had 11 and 10 points off the bench and Lisette Meza added four assists,
