GCC Women's Basketball narrowly wins 11th straight game over Citrus College Jan. 29, 57-55 in overtime; improves to 6-0 in WSC South and 16-3 overall
The mark of a championship team is the ability to grind out wins when things are not going well and that was the case for the GCC Women's Basketball Team in its 57-55 overtime win over visiting Citrus College January 29. On it's way to it's 11th straight win, Glendale led comfortably 24-18 at the half and 39-27 after three quarters but were outscored 20-8 in the fourth quarter to force overtime by the Owls. They prevailed 10-8 in the extra five minutes stanza to maintain its one game lead in the WSC at 6-0 and are 16-3 overall.
 
Freshman Sammy Velasquez led the Lady Vaqs in scoring with 19 points and added five assists. Shadel Ffrench had a monster game on defense with 17 rebounds, six on the offensive glass and blocked five shots and added 14 points and Malia Ulery also had 14 points with seven rebounds, four assists and two steals.
 
GCC continues conference play Saturday Feb. 1 at West Los Angeles College at 3 pm.
