Watching Kaitlin Ronduen orchestrate the action for the GCC Women's Volleyball Team is like seeing poetry in motion.  She is constantly moving and talking, moving to get herself in position to pass the ball as the team's setter and talking to her teammates about where to be and what to do.

In other words the sophomore from John Marshall High School is the quarterback for the Lady Vaqs, in essence the signal caller in a role that she has performed in for the last two years

"Kaitlin is a hard working dedicated setter who only wants the best for her team.  She is a leader in every sense of the word, not just talking but doing," said GCC Head Women's Volleyball Coach Yvette Ybarra.  "She loves the game of volleyball and it shows every time she takes the court."

As she prepares for her final game of the 2019 indoor season at Citrus College Friday, Nov. 8 at 6 pm, Kaitlin said she feels nostalgic about one part of her life coming to a close but not too all together sad as she still has the 2020 beach volleyball season to look forward too.

"I didn't play beach last year in order to concentrate on my studies but I'm really looking forward to it this year," she said before a match last week.  "Playing volleyball will never be out of my system whether I play at a university when I transfer or just in the backyard with friends and family.  I love the game too much to never play anymore."

Webster's Dictionary defines the word assist as to help or aid.  For Kaitlin as a setter, it is the perfect description of her intention to aid her teammates with a good enough pass that leads to winning a point on any ball that she gets her hands on.  She deftly calls her mission chasing the pass and trying to make it better.

Her GCC team this year has doubled its win total this season from a year ago from four to eight. Kaitlin has been big part of that improvement as she has 508 assists this season for an average of almost eight per set.  She is definitely not a one dimensional player as she also has 152 digs, 31 kills, 17 service aces and six solo blocks.

And whenever the term the quarterback goes back to pass is heard, thinking of Kaitlin Ronduen getting ready to pass to her teammates one last time indoors on Friday wearing a GCC uniform, the hitters better  be ready because she will be chasing the pass harder than ever.
