Title: Assistant Coach
City: Glendale
State: CA

Matt Osherow is entering his 6th year as an Assistant Cross Country/Track & Field Coach for the Vaqueros. While coaching the throwers at Glendale, the men’s track and field team has been in the top 3 finishes every season, including back-to-back WSC titles in 2017 and 2018. The throwers have been named to 20 All-Conference teams, including a conference title for Val Brantley in the Women’s Hammer and State qualifier for Matt Velasco in the Javelin. Before the 2020 season came to a sudden halt, Glendale had a shot putter ranked 7th in CA and three Hammer throwers ranked in the top 14 in Southern California.

Osherow also spent the 2019 Track season as an Assistant Throws coach for Occidental College. The Oxy throwers saw amazing success as they were able to reset the school’s record board 5 times throughout the year – three in Hammer, two in Discus, and 1 in Javelin. There were 3 All-SCIAC performances, all coming from Sabrina Degnan who capped off her Oxy career with conference titles in Hammer (169’0”) and the Javelin (129’5”), as well as a 2nd place finish in shot put (38’8.75”). Degnan would also be named the SCIAC Field Athlete of the Year and was a top-30 candidate for the NCAA Woman of the Year Award. She also narrowly missed out on qualifying for the NCAA Division III National Championships in Hammer, where she ended with a national rank of 23rd place.

Matt Osherow is a Los Angeles native, graduating from Eagle Rock High School in 2011 where he was a member of the Track & Field team all four years, and a member of the football team for one season. He went on to attend Whittier College, where he received his BA in Political Science in 2015, while also competing as a thrower on the Track & Field team for three seasons. He recently received his MA in Secondary Education from Loyola Marymount University, and will be working towards his MS in Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University.
