Citrus College took on the top team in the conference and gave everything it had but came up just short in a 55-53 defeat at Glendale College Wednesday night.

The Owls drop to 7-12 on the year and 2-3 in Western State Conference action, while the Vaqueros improve to 15-4 overall and remain undefeated at 5-0 in conference.

Giselle Garcia-Nunez came up big once again for the Owls, scoring 21 points on 8-of-14 shooting and grabbing 11 rebounds for her 12th double-double of the year. Gabriela Valdez followed with 20 points, dropping six three-pointers for the second time this season, which is the second-most scored by an Owl in a single game.

Citrus dominated the glass 37-to-26, with Joceline Escamilla adding nine rebounds behind Garcia-Nunez.

The Owls continue on the road, heading to Antelope Valley College on Saturday for a 5 p.m. tip off before returning to the Owls' Nest on Wednesday, Jan. 25 to host West LA for their Coaches vs. Cancer game.
