Pirates roll to 9-0 win over Glendale

COSTA MESA -- It was smooth sailing on calm waters for the Orange Coast College women's tennis team as the Pirates cruised to a 9-0 nonconference win over visiting Glendale College on Friday at the OCC Tennis Complex.

The win keeps the Pirates unbeaten at 8-0 and on Friday, Coast prevailed on 72-of-75 games played in singles and 24-of-27 games in doubles for a stress-free win over the Vaqueros.

Strong singles play was turned in by Mebuki Kitakuni (6-0, 6-0), Tori Varela (6-0, 6-0), Kaylee Ho (6-0, 6-0), Sydney Friesen (6-1, 6-0), Rozina Esfehani (6-1, 6-1) and Kamela Mozafari (6-0, 6-0).

In doubles, it was more of the same with wins coming from Varela/Kei Chung (8-1), Friesan/Kayla Cheng (8-2) and Breckyn Berg/Isabella Gavrilovic (8-0).

Out of OCC's eight wins, it's the fifth to finish 9-0 as OCC has won 66 matches and lost just four through the first eight contests.

The Pirates will now turn their attention back to Orange Empire Conference play on Tuesday at Riverside City College, beginning at 2 p.m.
