Alex Mills powers GCC to win over Citrus; Vaqs tied for WSC East lead at 3-1

Alex Mills hit a three run homer in the second inning and pitchers Kyle Nicol and Dexter Wilkerson held host Citrus to seven hits in Glendale's 5-1 win Thursday.

GCC beat Canyons 5-1 Tuesday and are now tied for the WSC East lead with Citrus at 3-1 and are 12-8 overall.

 

Mills blast held up until the ninth inning when the Vaqs added a pair of runs, one when Mills scored on a wild pitch and the other when Jordan Martinez singled

home Casey Slattery. Mills had two hits on the day and three RBI while Wilkerson had a sharp outing in relief of Nicol by striking out eight in seven innings of work

and walking just two.

 

In the win over Canyons, the Vaqs had 12 hits in support of starter Gerardo Ramirez with Slattery and Hans Seo hitting homers and Brandon Lewis and Sammy Martinez

hitting two baggers. Christian Muro, Slattery, Lewis, Hayden Luff and Martinez all had two hits each for GCC.

 

Glendale closes out the three game road trip this week with a Saturday matchup at Victor Valley at 1 pm.
