Glendale splits four games last week; looks to clinch WSC East Title this week

 

 

Glendale beat Chaffey College 12-5 Friday April 19 to end the week splitting four games against non-conference opponents to improve its record to 24-13 overall this season and are ranked No. 6 in the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association Poll of April 16.

 

For the games from Tuesday April 16-18, GCC had the following results:

 

·         Tuesday April 16-Glendale lost to Ventura 5-4

·         Wednesday April 17-Glendale lost to L.A. Mission 10-9

·         Thursday April 18-Glendale beat Compton 10-4

 

In the win over Chaffey, Christina Muro had five hits, all singles, scored three runs and drove in one and stole three bases. Trent MacKinney and Lucas Sakay each had two hits with MacKinney, Sakay hitting doubles along with Sammy Martinez and Fernando Rosales with Riley Hooper hitting a solo homer.

 

Glendale returns to WSC East play this week with three games against Victor Valley College, Tuesday April 23 at 2:30 pm at Stengel Field, Thursday April 25 at Victor Valley  and Friday April 26 at home at Stengel Field at 2:30 pm in the regular season finale. Any GCC win this week will clinch the WSC East title for the Vaqs, 13-4, as they are three games up on Canyons and Citrus, both 10-7, with three games left to play and the 2019 WSC Title and the first championship for interim head coach Alex Kocol. Since 2011, Glendale has won WSC Titles in 2011, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016 and 2018.

 

The CCCAA first round Southern California Regionals will be played May 3-4 with GCC slated to host at Stengel Field if Glendale clinches the WSC East title this week.
