Vaqs fall to Moorpark 24-19 despite improved effort
 
Despite falling to visiting Moorpark College 24-19 and dropping to 0-3 this season, the Glendale College Football team showed definite signs of improvement on both sides of the ball Saturday September 15 at Sartoris Field.
 
At Various times during the first half, the Vaqs led 6-0, 6-2 and 6-5. Quarterback Nathan Eldridge hooked up with wide receiver Tyree O'Neil on a 54 yard touchdown pass at the 6:21 mark of the first quarter for a 6-0 lead. the ensuing extra point attempt by Chris Wood was blocked a run back by Moorpark for a two point conversion tio make it 6-2. After a Moorpark field goal made it 6-5,  running back Quinn Sheaffer bolted into the end zone for a 43 yard touchdown run followed by the extra point by Shant Hannessian that made it 13-5 Glendale at the half.
 
A Moorpark score early in the second half cut the lead to 13-11 after a 2 point conversion to tie the game failed and then the Raiders scored again with one second left in the third quarter to make the score 18-13. Moorpark extended it's lead to 24-13 before Eldridge threw a 25 yard strike to Jalen Lawrence to make it 24-19 after the bid for a 2 point conversion failed. Glendale had the ball with time running out but failed to get a play off for a come from behind win.
 
Eldridge passed 146 yards and two scores on 9 of 20 and had one pass intercepted. O'Neil caught five balls for 95 yards and one score and Jalen Lawrence caught two for 42 and one touchdown. Sheaffer led all runners with 54 yards on 11 carries and Michael Stanford had five solo tackles and 11 total and Cody Tanaiguchi had four solo tackles and nine for the night.
 
Glendale continues no-conference play with a road game Sept. 22 at Mt. San Jacinto College  at 1 pm.
