GCC Football improves to 1-1 with 28-10 win over Victor Valley Sept. 10

On a rainy-day Saturday Sept. 10 in Victorville, the Glendale College Football Team earned a hard fought first win of the season, 28-10 over Victor Valley College at Victor Valley High School.

Defensively, the Vaqs provided a swarming presence as Spencer Lauer accounted for eight tackles and two interceptions, one that he returned for a touchdown of 31 yards and broke up three passes. Lauer's pick six made the score 21-10 at the beginning of the third quarter after Glendale led 14-3 at halftime. Emiliano Contreras and Sebastian DeLeon led GCC with 11 and 10 tackles respectively as the defense limited the host Rams to only nine first downs in the game.

Offensively, Sophomore quarterback Nick Garcia passed for 194 yards on 12 completions in 20 attempts and two touchdowns and also rushed for a two-point conversion. Giorgio Spiropoulos led the ground game with 79 yards on 16 carries including a 15-yard run in the second quarter that gave the Vaqs a 6-3 lead in the second quarter. An 18-yard scoring toss to Jack Fenady from Garcia extended the lead to 14-3 and Fenady led the receivers with three grabs for 55 yards and Nick Johnson caught three balls for 37 yards. Caleb Snowden caught one pass for 10 yards, a touchdown pass from Garcia in the fourth quarter that make it 28-10 after John Delgado's second PAT of the game.

Glendale opens its home game schedule Saturday Sept. 17 with a 7 pm game against Los Angeles Pierce College
