In the end, a slow start in the GCC Football Team's 44-17 loss to Santa Ana College in the 2022 regular season finale was not only challenging to overcome but a preview of things to come for the Vaqueros. The Vaqs trailed 9-3 in the first half and managed only two second half touchdowns that kept the game close until the Dons pulled away.

Generating offense for the Vaqs and keeping the Dons at bay defensively seemed to be the biggest struggles as GCC generated just 14 first downs to 30 for Santa Ana, 223 yards of total offense to 537, ran just 48 plays compared to 89 and lost the battle for time of possession, 17.09 to 42.51.

Sophomore quarterback Nick Garcia passed for two touchdowns on 13 completions in 31 attempts for 192 yards and Jahrique Lowe caught four passes for 111 yards and one touchdown, a 55-yard hookup from Garcia in the second half. Dominque Benson led the effort defensively with seven tackles, six solo and Enrique Henry Diaz had six stops, two solo.
