GCC Men & Women's Track and Field Team compete in Orange Coast Classic March 18
The Vaqueros took part in the Orange Coast Classic this past weekend. Shannon Turner (1:58.86) and Robert Morales (1:59.52) took 1st and 2nd in the 800m. Luis Juarez (2:01.25), Nick Serrano (2:01.90), Julius Largaespada (2:01.91), Kevin Vasquez (2:05.07), Abdiel Quero (2:07.82), Morgan Faunce (2:10.07), Jorge Ramirez (2:22.36), and Kevin Kiely (2:37.39) were also 800m competitors. In the 1500m, Austin Kuromi (4:05.09), Julius Largaespada (4:05.40), Roberto Morales (4:07.94), and Luis Juarez (4:08.89) all took 1st through 4th, respectively. Others to take part in the 1500m were Nick Serrano (4:13.57), Sheldon Watanabe (4:17.53), Abdiel Quero (4:20.07), Morgan Faunce (4:23.27), Kevin Vasquez (4:25.05), Jorge Ramirez (4:38.51), and Kevin Kiely (5:09.81). In the field events, Joziah Hernandez took 6th place in the pole vault clearing 10'6". In shot put, Gerardo Becerra (42'4") and Kevin Gomez (40'5") took 3rd and 4th place, respectively. John Westwood (36'9.5'), Julius Dawoodtabar (33'6.5"), Michael Bomar (29'10.75"), and Lincoln Guerrero (29'4.75") were the other shot putters to get tosses in. Gerardo Becerra won the discus with a toss of 132'9". Other discus throwers to compete were John Westwood (105'2"), Lincoln Guerrero (99'8"), Michael Bomar (99'0"), Julius Dawoodtabar (88'10"), and Garno Amirian (70'6"). Kevin Gomez won the hammer with a toss of 145'3", with Lincoln Guerrero finishing 3rd with a throw of 110'9". In the javelin, Julio Aguayo (133'2") took 2nd place, with Garno Amirian (73'3") taking 11th.
On the women's side, Karla Sanchez (2:31.70) took 2nd place with Destiny Lopez (2:33.69) coming in 3rd, and Aleksandra Martinez (2:36.36) taking 4th. Jordan Guzman (2:47.88) and Norma Martinez (2:50.20) took 7th and 8th place, respectively. In the 1500m, Destiny Lopez took 3rd in a time of 5:08.47. Aleksandra Martinez (5:10.88) and Karla Sanchez (5:12.56) would follow Lopez, finishing 4th and 5th, respectively. Jordan Guzman (5:33.15) and Norma Martinez (5:50.73) also took part in the 1500m race. Vanessa Portillo won the javelin with a toss of 111'5" and took 8th place in shot put with a throw of 27'6". Xochilt Monfil took 6th place in hammer with a throw of 100'9" and had a toss of 73'9" in the discus. The Vaqueros will have a bye week and will travel to Bakersfield College on April 1 to compete in the WSC Inland meet.
