2019 GCC Men and Women’s Cross Country Preview

2019 GCC Men and Women's Cross Country Preview

The premise is simple. Run a 3.2 mile women's race or a 4 mile men's race in a park or through city streets and try to do it as a team better than any group that you are racing against that day.

Welcome to the 2019 GCC women and men's cross country season and not only the drive to succeed, but the pressure to win and to continue the streak of 14 straight Western State Conference Titles for the women and four for the men.

Given the challenges of training through a hot summer as he pushes his runners to producing over 50 miles of week of running in preparation for the season that starts Friday August 23 in Oxnard, Head Coach Eddie Lopez feels good heading into the new campaign.

"With the runners coming back from last year and the strong group of freshman we have coming in, I feel good about our upcoming season'' Lopez said. "When you return All-American runners Like Phoebe Forsyth for the women and Spencer Geck for the men, it gives our team the talent and leadership to set us up for a successful season.''

Speaking of Phoebe and Spencer, they both come into their sophomore cross country seasons after earning All-American honors in the spring of 2019 at the state meet in the 3000-Meter Steeplechase. Phoebe said she feels very confident heading into the season for her and the team and Spencer said the men's group is shaping up nicely and he is anxious to see how they preform starting with the Oxnard meet.
