Men finish fifth at Fresno Invitational Saturday and Women take fist place Sept. 7

The Glendale College Cross Country teams had a very successful trip to Fresno this past weekend as they competed in the Fresno Invitational where they got a sneak peek at the competition they would see at the State Championships in late November. The women were the first to race Saturday morning, and they raced very well as they would come home with a 1st place plaque scoring a total of 26 points. Four of the top Five and five of the top seven lady Vaqueros would go on to PR, and all five scoring runners broke 20 minutes in the race. Phoebe Forsyth would go on to win the race with a 10 second PR and a time of 19:10.3. Right behind her with a 2nd place finish was Yajaira Calderon who had a PR of 13 seconds and a time of 19:20.2. They were followed by Jamie Levin, who took 5th place in a time of 19:28.7, which puts all three of her races under 19:30 this year. Lydia Forsyth would follow Levin with a 31 second PR and a time of 19:48.2, which gave her a 9th place finish. Rounding out the top five was Bianca Biel who ran a 19:59.1 for a 12th place finish and a 22 second PR. Eileen Silva would run a 20:39.6 for a season PR and a 25th place finish. Finally, rounding out the top seven runners would be Jasmine Corralejo, who finished 61st in a time of 22:22.0, giving her a 36 second PR. The women would go on to beat out 2nd place Hartnell by a total of 20 points and 3rd place Mt. Sac by a total of 83 points.

                The men would also go on to have a very respectable and optimistic race day. They would go on to a 5th place team finish scoring a total of 156 points. This time, the men's top finisher would be Marvin Guardado who would go on to take 11th place in the race in a time of 21.:18.7, which would be a 16 second PR. Kevin Keller, who is typically the team's top finisher, would take 28th place in a time of 21:49.0. Not far behind Keller was Albert Serrano with a 38th place finish, and a season PR time of 22:02.3. They were followed by Ameer Mohammed who had a 6 second PR and a time of 22:09.0, which was a 46th place finish. Rounding out the top five was 55th place finisher Abraham Martinez, who did have a 25 second PR and a time of 22:17.4. Four of the top five runners would go on to have either a season of lifetime PR. Usiel Ulloa would finish in 75th place and a time of 22:37.0, with Spencer Geck in 82nd place and a time of 22:45.7 to round out the top seven runners of the race. This Friday, the Cross Country teams will travel down South to San Diego for the SoCal Preview race at Mission Bay Park.
