GCC Softball opens season in Dave "Hawk" Wilder Tournament; Beats Moorpark 5-2

Under blue skies and no hint of rain, the GCC Women's Softball Team opened up the 2020 season with one win in four games in the 16th annual Dave "Hawk" Wilder Softball Tournament Jan. 31 and Feb. 1 at the Glendale Sports Complex.

On day one of the tournament last Friday Jan. 31, Glendale dropped a pair of games 7-6 to San Bernardino Valley College and 15-3 to San Diego Mesa. On Saturday  Feb. 1, the Lady Vaqs beat Moorpark 5-2 and then fell to Ventura 7-3.

In the win over Moorpark, starting pitcher Torii Forsberg had two hits and an RBI and pitched allowed just one run, three hits and walked two in her 3 2/3 innings of work before leaving the game after a line drive to the face left her unable to continue. Zuhaley Villaverde also had two hits for GCC with Samantha Sanchez also getting a hit.

Glendale played at Oxnard Tuesday Feb. 4 and then will host Victor Valley at 2:30 pm Thursday Feb. 6.  And then host College of the Desert in a doubleheader Saturday Feb. 8 at 1 and 3 pm at the Glendale Sports Complex at 2200 Fern Lane, about a mile from GCC offof Verdugo Rd.
