Glendale falls to El Camino 62-58; nine game winning streak snapped

In a matchup Saturday between visiting El Camino and home team Glendale as two of the best teams in Southern California, the Lady Vaqs couldn't find the consistency to keep the game in their favor.

The result was a 62-58 win for the Warriors, who shot just a little better at the right time to beat a GCC team that had not lost since November 11 and fell to 11-2 overall this season. Glendale led the back and forth battle 33-32 in the third quarter after leading at halftime 24-20 but it was all El Camino in the second half after blitzing the Lady Vaqs 21-13 in the third quarter as they improved to 11-4 with the win. El Camino was ranked No, 7 in Southern California and No, 12 in the state as of the Dec. 10 poll and Glendale is No. 12 in Southern California.

GCC struggled all night to find any rhythm on offense as they shot just 41 percent from the field and 15 percent from the three point line but the Lady Vaqs battled throughout as Sylvia Vartazarian led them with 20 points and 15 rebounds, five off of the offensive glass. Tess Oakley-Stilson added  14 points on seven of 11 from the field but the bench contributed only four points as their team balance and depth was not a factor against El Camino as it has been for most of this season. Salihah Bey led the visitors with 20 points with many of her scores coming in the second half.

Glendale plays next at Pasadena Friday January 4 at 7 pm.
