Women's Basketball continues winning ways with 61-43 win over Barstow

The GCC Women's Basketball Team beat Barstow 61-43 Saturday for its seventh straight win to improve to 6-0 in the Western State Conference East and 18-4 overall. They are ranked No. 10 in Southern California in the Feb. 4 California Community College Sports Information Association Poll and No. 18 in the state.

The Lady Vaqs led the Vikings 31-15 at the half and rolled to the win despite playing fairly even with the home team in the third and fourth quarters.  Sophomore Sylvia Vartazarian led GCC in scoring with 19 points and eight rebounds and Tess Oakley-Stilson and Cheyenne Jankulovski had 12 points each and Jankulovski had a solid overall game with seven rebounds and a game high six assists.

Glendale faces possibly its toughest challenge of the second round of the WSC East schedule when it hosts Citrus College Wednesday Feb. 13 at 7 pm in the Verdugo Gym. The Lady Owls are just one game back in the WSC East at 5-1 and are 16-8 overall. GCC got the best of Citrus by a score of 64-55 when they matched up Jan. 23 at Citrus.
