Jorge Mena graduated from Glendale High School 1986, before attending Glendale College where he completed his all CSU General Education-Breadth (CSU GE Breadth) requirements.  Coach Mena went on to continue his education at CSULA, earning a Bachelor of Arts, Spanish and Minor in History of Latin America in 1994

He then pursued his higher education and graduated with two Masters, a Specialization in Management and Teaching in Higher Education from Faam, Faculdade da Amazonia in Para, Brasil in the Spring 1996 and a Master of Education, Physical Education from Azusa Pacific University in June 2014

 

Coach Mena played for the men’s soccer team in1986 and 1987. During both of his seasons as an athlete, he helped the Vaqueros win back to back conference championships while earning second team all-conference honors.

 

He started his coaching career by becoming the assistant coach for the men’s soccer team under Coach Agoston from 1989-1995. As an assistant coach he helped the Vaqueros clinch conference titles in 1989, 1991 and 1992.

 

In 1994 Coach Mena became an Adjunct instructor for Glendale College. In 1996, Jorge went on to become the first Women’s head soccer coach at the start of the Women’s Soccer Program at Glendale College and has held his position ever since.

He was honored as WSC Women’s Soccer Coach of the year in 2002, while taking the women’s Glendale College soccer program to the Western State Conference playoffs for the first time.

 

Coach Mena holds a USSF “D” License along with the following credentials: ABTF (Brazilian Soccer Coaches Association) “A” License, ABTF (Brazilian Soccer Coaches Association) “B” License, ABTF (Brazilian Soccer Coaches Association)  and“C” License.

 

He was also honored at Glendale College with the Professor/Teacher of the year award in 2008.

During the summer of 2014, he was hired as a full time instructor at Glendale College. Coach Jorge Mena has served for over 20 years at Glendale College exemplifying the meaning “Once a Vaq, Always a Vaq”.
