GCC Track & Field Teams compete in the Battle of the Regions Meet Feb, 11

After almost two years, the Vaqueros competed in their first track & field competition at the Battle of the Regions in Bakersfield. On the women's side, Vanessa Portillo had PRs in the shot put (32'3") and javelin (106'5"). Her javelin mark makes her the state leader in the event to begin the season. Xocilt Monfil competed in the hammer throw (89'10"), shot put (24'4.25"), and discus (78'8"). In the 800m, Karla Sanchez took 2nd place with a time of 2:31.43 and Xinix Perla took 8th with a time of 2:41.79. The 1500m event had five Glendale runners: Destiny Lopez (5:14.62), Karla Sanchez (5:16.33), Aleksandra Martinez (5:28.84), Jordan Guzman (5:36.47), and Norma Martinez (6:03.03). Finally, the 3000m race Destiny Lopez (11:44.63) and Aleksandra Martinez (11:68.09) would both take 1st and 2nd place, respectively. Jordan Guzman took 6th place in a time of 12:17.84 and Norma Martinez finished 9th with a time of 13:15.23.

On the men's side, the 800m race had Austin Kuromi (2:00.98), Sheldon Watanabe (2:03.01), Kevin Vasquez (2:07.29), and Nick Serrano (2:11.30) finish in 2nd, 5th, 11th, and 16th place, respectively. The 1500m race had eight competitors: Austin Kuromi (4:09.33), Kevin Vasquez (4:20.04), Luis Juarez (4:20.72), Jorge Ramirez (4:26.47), Abdiel Quero (4:28.77), Nick Serrano (4:30.79), Morgan Faunce (4:34.04), and Kevin Kiely (5:19.38). The 3000m race had Julius Largaespada (9:17.56), Luis Juarez (9:28.43), Jorge Ramirez (9:30.46), Abdiel Quero (9:41.08), Alfredo De Anda (9:52.37), and Morgan Faunce (9:57.18). In the field events, Kevin Gomez took 2nd place in the hammer throw (146'10") and 7th place in the shot put (38'10.25"). Lincoln Guerrero also competed in the hammer throw and had a toss of 106'11" for an 11th place finish. Others to compete in the shot put included: Julius Dawoodtabar (33'0.25"), Lincoln Guerrero (31'8.5"), John Westwood (31'1.25"), and Michael Bomar (30'0"). The discus throw had four competitors to get marks: Lincoln Guerrero (100'1"), Julius Dawoodtabar (99'2"), John Westwood (97'6"), and Michael Bomar (87'3"). Finally, Julio Aguayo went on to win the javelin with a mark of 132'10."
