GCC Men and Women's Track compete in Long Beach State Invitational March 4-5

The Vaqueros took part in their first major invitational of the year at Cal State Long Beach. They finished with PRs all around in the distance and the field events. On the men's side, Shannon Turner had another seasonal best in the 800m with a time of 1:59.91. Austin Kuromi finished close behind him with a time of 2:01.11. Others with strong performances in the 800m included Luis Juarez (2:03.27), Nick Serrano (2:03.89), Kevin Vasquez (2:05.04), Julius Largaespada (2:05.96), and Kevin Kiely (2:44.22). In the 1500m, Austin Kuromi led the way with a time of 4:06.81. Julius Largaespada (4:09.85), Kevin Vasquez (4:14.12), Nick Serrano (4:19.60), and Kevin Kiely (5:14.45) also took part in the 1500m. The four runners in the 3000m race were Roberto Morales (9:10.12), Jorge Ramirez (9:17.46), Abdiel Quero (9:24.49), and Morgan Faunce (9:35.14). Luis Juarez made his steeplechase debut and finished with a very strong 10:03.86 performance. In the field events, Joziah Hernandez had another PR in the pole vault clearing 10'11." Kevin Gomez (40'9.75"), Gerardo Becerra (40'1.25"), Michael Bomar (31'8"), and John Westwood (36'4.75") all had PRs in the shot put. Others to have strong performances in the shot put were Julius Dawoodtabar (32'3.5") and Lincoln Guerrero (31'1.25"). In the discus, there were PRs from Gerardo Becerra (133'1"), John Westwood (111'0"), Garno Amirian (73'5") and Julius Dawoodtabar (99'9"). Others to take part in the discus were Lincoln Guerrero (96'6") and Michael Bomar (89'2"). In the hammer throw, Kevin Gomez had a PR with a toss of 148'0" keeping him in the Southern California lead in the event. Lincoln Guerrero also had a strong toss of 104'5" in the hammer. Finally, competing in the javelin were Julio Aguayo (128'4") and Garno Amirian (79'6").

 

On the women's side, Xinix Perla had a PR in the 800m with a time of 2:38.51. Karla Sanchez won the community college division in the 1500m with a time of 5:00.51. The 3000m saw four runners competing and getting PRs: Aleksandra Martinez (11:21.03), Destiny Lopez (11:25.35), Jordan Guzman (11:59.62), and Norma Martinez (12:17.72). In the field events, Vanessa Portillo had a big PR in the javelin with a toss of 118'0" to give her back the Southern California lead. She also took part in the shot put with a toss of 29'9.5". Xochilt Monfil had another solid performance in the hammer with a toss of 99'9". She also had a PR in the discus with a toss of 81'7". The Vaqueros will travel to Occidental College on March 12 to compete in the Occidental Spring Break Carnival.
