The track & field team began their postseason competition this past Friday at the WSC Preliminaries at College of the Canyons. While individuals had to qualify for the finals next Friday, some of the field events were finals with a trip to SoCal Prelims on the line. The hammer competition was one of the two throwing events that were finals. Kevin Gomez captured the Conference Title in the hammer with a huge PR of 158'10", while also currently ranking him 6th in the state for the event. Lincoln Guerrero was the other hammer thrower who was able to punch his ticket to SoCal Finals in two weeks with a throw of 114'6". In the finals for the javelin, Julio Aguayo had a throw of 145'3" for 3rd place, with Edward Jones getting a PR of 144'0" to take 4th place. Others to compete in Javelin were Michael Bomar (80'4") and Garno Amirian (72'11"). In the running events, Roberto Morales (4:04.65), Julius Largaespada (4:04.78), and Luis Juarez (4:03.19) were able to qualify for finals in the 1500m. Others in the race were Kevin Vasquez (4:12.14), Sheldon Watanabe (4:14.96), Morgan Faunce (4:32.27), Nick Serrano (4:43.52), and Kevin Kiely (5:07.19). In the 800m, Roberto Morales (1:57.21), Shannon Turner (1:57.28), and Julius Largaespada (1:58.26) qualified for finals. Others taking part in the 800m were Luis Juarez (1:59.62), Kevin Vasquez (2:01.98), Nick Serrano (2:07.09), Morgan Faunce (2:12.35), and Kevin Kiely (2:33.16). In the 10000m, Jorge Ramirez (33:34.64) took 6th place to punch his ticket to SoCal Finals, while Abdiel Quero (34:08.82) just missed out with an 8th place finish.

     On the women's side, Vanessa Portillo (101'4") took 4th place and a was able to qualify for SoCal Finals in three weeks. Xochilt Mofil took 8th in the hammer with a PR of 107'9". In 10000m, Destiny Lopez took 7th in a time of 41:58.70 and was able to punch her ticket to SoCal Finals. In the 800m preliminaries, Karla Sanchez took 7th place with a time of 2:28.58 to qualify for conference finals next week. Xinix Perla took 13th place in a time of 2:40.56. In the 1500m, Karla Sanchez was also able to qualify for conference finals with a time of 5:00.79, along with Aleksandra Martinez who took 11th with a time of 5:11.07. Norma Martinez finished 18th with a time of 5:45.55. WSC Finals will take place next Friday April 29th at Santa Monica College.
