Women's Team is ranked # 1 in state and Southern Califonia; Men are No. 4; Marcelo Ramirez and Akol Malong finish first and second for Glendale in Coyote Challenge

The Vaqueros Cross Country teams ran another tough race at the CSU San Bernardino Coyote Challenge as they went up against Hartnell, San Diego Mesa, San Bernardino Valley, as well as Division 1 and Division 2 teams, including Cal State San Marcos, UC San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona. The women Vaqueros finished 6th overall among 19 total teams but finished 1st among community colleges over Hartnell with a total of 183 points. The men finished 1st among community colleges upsetting San Bernardino Valley and San Diego Mesa with a total of 28 points. As the Vaqueros get closer to WSC, SoCal and State they continue to run well with several personal records and their competitiveness.

            The lady Vaqs ran more personal bests with team captain Jennifer Perez-Cazarez (18:09.6) as she finished 14th by chasing not only tough Division 1, Division 2 and Division 3 runners, but also went after former Vaquero Angelica Salas who won the women's race. They set the pace for Daisy Romero (18:46.0, 33rd place), Noemi Apreza (19:00.7, 43rd place), Genesis Siam-Alvarez (19:05.3, 47th place) and Jazmin Negro (19:25.8, 64th place) all of whom had huge days and stepped it up. Of course, they were not the only ones who ran well as Phoebe Forsyth (19:33.2, 73rd place), Eileen Silva (20:06.9, 99th place) and Rosalina Castro (20:23.2) continue to run tough races, along with April Fonseca (20:50.9), Emilia Lopez (21:45.1) and Ramina Padashi Fard (22:37.6) who continue to improve.

            On men Vaqs also continue to run well and tough races as they ran more personal bests, led by Marcelo Ramirez (20:24.6) and Akol Malong (20:32.5) who finished 1st and 2nd among community colleges. They were followed by Alberto Serrano (21:01.3) and Carlos Rivera (21:01.6) who finished 8th and 9th, withMoses Merino (21:06.0) and Kevin Keller (21:20.7) continuing to show how tough they are as they finished 11th and 14th overall. Of course, several others continue to run tough races including Danny Vazquez (21:41.1), Antonio Arroyo (21:43.7) and Spencer Geck (21:49.6) finishing 19th, 20th, and 28th. Among the other Vaqs were Oscar Ulloa (22:24.5), Usiel Ulloa (22:42.2), Pedro Morales (22:53.3), Abraham Martinez (23:00.0) and Eric Gutierrez (23:13.2).

            The Vaqueros will be racing again Friday, September 28th at Cuesta College for the WSC Preview race.
