Glendale Cross Country sweeps team titles at Oxnard Meet; Keller and Forsyth record top finishes

The Glendale Men and Women Cross Country Teams began their 2019 season Friday at the Oxnard College Invitational. The Lady Vaqueros ran away with the easy victory to a total of 24 points. They were led by Sophomore Phoebe Forsyth (19:20.51). Forsythe, an All-American Steeplechaser, has opened her Cross-Country season with a PR of about 13 seconds. Freshman Jamie Levin (19:21.28), and Freshman Yajaira Calderon (19:33.42), who took 2nd, 3rd, and 4th Place, respectively would finish up in the top five runners of the race in their Glendale debut. Other Lady Vaqueros to finish in the top ten were newcomers Bianca Biel (20:21.32) who placed 8th, and Lydia Forsyth (20:24.03) with a 9th place finish. Eileen Silva (20:57.32) and Vivien Martin Del Campo (21:36.18) rounded up Glendale's top 7 runners with very respectable times to also keep them in the top 15 of all finishers.

The Men would also run away with the race to a total of 20 points, led by Kevin Keller (21:20.93) and Marvin Guardado (21:34.39) who took 1st and 2nd, respectively. They were followed by 5th place finisher Eric Gutierrez (22:03.72), 8th place finisher Usiel Ulloa (22:13.73), 9th place finisher Spencer Geck (22:14.14), 10th place finisher Ameer Mohammed (22:15.43), and 13th place finisher Albert Serrano (22:36.83) as the men's top 7 runners. Gutierrez would probably have the best season opener finish for the returning runners, as he broke his PR by over a minute. Both the men and women had their top 7 runners finish in the top 15 of their respective races. Glendale will travel to Fullerton this upcoming Saturday to take part in the Mark Covert Classic, where the field of runners will include Division 1 and 2 Universities.
