Bobcats cruise past Vaqueros in regional

The Saddleback baseball team opened the California Community College Athletic Association (3C2A) Super Regional Tournament with an 11-1 win against Glendale College on Thursday at Doug Fritz Field.  The Bobcats now face El Camino College in a best-of-three scenario for a spot in the regional finals.

Saddleback was dominant throughout, opening up a 2-0 lead in the first inning and never looking back.  The Bobcats ended up pounding out 16 hits and sending Glendale back home after dropping their second game of the day.

Saddleback had big performances all around.  The offense had plenty of stars, with Jack Collins finishing 4-for-5, Jason Hefft collecting three hits and J.C. Allen hitting a towering home run that put the game out of reach.

Saddleback started Will Girardi (pictured) on the mound and he pitched through the sixth inning in picking up his fourth win of the season.  Girardi struck out seven and allowed zero walks in improving to 4-0 overall.  The Bobcats then turned the ball over to a trio of pitchers that kept the Vaqueros off the scoreboard in Ryan Cullinane, Tommy Di Landri and Jackson Clark.   In total, Saddleback pitching struck out 10 Vaqueros on the afternoon while walking none.

Saddleback is now 32-10 overall following the win.  The Bobcats will face off with El Camino College (31-12) in a best-of-three series for the right to host a regional final next weekend.  Saddleback and El Camino will open the series at 12:00 PM on Friday.  Game two is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Saturday, with game three to follow (if necessary).
