The GCC Baseball Team took a mathematical approach to the Tuesday April 19th matchup against visiting L.A. Valley College. Both teams had winning streaks heading into the game, GCC at 18 games and Valley at eight with the Vaqueros needing just one win to clinch the 2022 WSC South Title.

But the math equation that the Vaqs used Tuesday obviously worked as they overcame a 1-0 deficit in the first inning and outscored the visitors 18-5 over the remaining eight innings to beat their rivals 18-6 and claim the 2022 WSC South Title. Now 16-0 in conference play and 29-5 overall and, GCC won its 19th straight game and continue to be ranked among the elite teams, No. 2 in Southern California and No. 3 in the state.

Through his six innings on the mound as he improved to 5-0 this season, starter Aaron Suval kept Valley in check as he allowed just seven hits and struck out nine. Chris Lozano, Reece Matheisen and Matt Tamura pitched in relief to help secure the Glendale win. Alex Mills hist a solo homer in the second inning to tie the game at 1-1 and led the offense with four hits, four runs scored and two RBI. Isaiah Velazco had three hits and two runs scored, Adrian Gonzales had a pair of run scoring doubles and Izzy Madariaga had two hits and three runs scored.

Glendale continues the three game series at Valley Thursday April 21 at 2:30 pm and hosts the Monarchs Saturday April 23 at 1 pm at Stengel Field.
