GCC Baseball rallies for 4-3 win over Chaffey College in 10 innings Feb. 2

In an extra inning game that came down to the last at bat, a base hit with the bases loaded by starting catcher Ethan Firestone drove home Joey Craig from third base to give the Glendale College baseball team a come from behind 4-3 over visiting Chaffey College in 10 innings Feb. 2 at Stengel Field. Glendale trailed 3-1 entering the eighth inning and scored single runs in the 8th, 9th and 10th inning to secure the victory to improve to 2-2 this season.

Leadoff hitter Brandon Nguyen opened the game with a double, the only extra base hit of the day for the Vaqs and came around to score on the first of three hits by Jackson Benattar to give GCC a quick 1-0 first inning lead but Chaffey came back with three runs of its own in the fourth inning before the Vaqs late inning heroics. Benattar also walked and drove in two runs.

Boon Fay got the win after pitching a solid 8th, 9th and 10th innings and striking out four. Julian Jaramillo started for GCC and gave up three earned runs in the fourth before Tobias Plotkin took the mound in the fifth and notched four strikeouts in his three innings of work before giving way to Fay. Andrew Cisneros added two hits for the Vaqs as the team also had four stolen bases on the day.

Glendale returns to Stengel Field with home games Wednesday, Feb. 8 against Golden West College at 2 p.m. and Friday, Feb. 10 at 1 p.m. against Fullerton College. They play at Golden West Thursday, Feb 9 at 1 p.m.
