With the 2923 WSC South conference race coming down to a critical two week stretch, the GCC Baseball team increased its first-place lead to three games with six to play with a sweep against Citrus College last week. The Vaqs beat the Owls 12-6 April 11, 12-8 April 14 and 9-7 April 15 to improve to 14-1 in WSC South play and 25-9 overall and are ranked No. 9 in the CCCBCA So. Cal poll.

In the win over Citrus Saturday, Andrew Cisneros paced the GCC offense with four hits including a double and a run scoring single and Joey Craig had two hits and four RBI that included a two-run homer and a two-run double. Alec Garcia also had two hits for Glendale and Tommy Italia had a solo homer. Starting pitcher Chris Lozano went four innings and Maximo Newhart, Owen Wendell-Braly, Daniel Vergara and Brady Barbosa pitched in relief with Vergara getting the win and Barbosa the save.

GCC starts a three-game series against College of the Canyons, tied for second place in conference at 11-4 with L.A. Valley College, with a home game April 18 at 2:30 pm at Stengel Field, plays at Canyons Thursday April 20 at 2:30 pm and hosts Canyons in the series finale at home Saturday April 22 at 1 pm.
