GCC Baseball beats L.A. Valley 8-6 College Tuesday April 25 to clinch 2023 WSC South Title
Needing to win just one game in the three-game series against second-place L.A. Valley College to secure the 2023 WSC South Title, the visiting Vaqueros did just that Tuesday April 25 with an 8-6 road win against the Monrachs. GCC extended its conference lead to three games with two games left in the regualr season against Valley and are 17-2 in conference play and 28-10 overall.
A two-run homer by Adrian Gonzalez with the game tied at six all in the ninth inning proved decisive as Glendale hammered out six extra base hits, four homers and two doubles, in support of starting pitcher Julian Jaramillo who pitched six strong innings and relievers Maximo Newhart and Tobias Plotkin, who earned the win. Brandon Nguyen, Jackson Benattar, Nick Sutherlin and Gabe Juarez all had two hits for Glendale.
GCC, ranked No. 8 in So. Cal in the latest CCCBCA poll, finishes out the Valley series with a home game Thursday April 27 at 2:30 pm at Stengel Field and play Friday April 28 at Valley at 2:30 pm in the regular season final. The first round of the CCCAA Southern California Regional Playoffs will be played the weekend of May 5-6.
