GCC Baseball starts playoffs with 25-6 win at Cuesta College May 3
The GCC Baseball team made a long trip worthwhile Friday May 3 when they pounded out 24 hits including 11 extra base hits in a 25-6 win over Cuesta College in a Southern California Regional Playoff first round opener. Glendale is now 26-14 and will play Cuesta in the second game of the three-game series Saturday May 4 at 11 am with a third game to start 30 minutes after the conclusion of the first game if necessary.
 
Starting pitcher Joe Estrada struck out eight in his seven innings of work and allowed just five hits to improve to 6-1 with Geo Hernandez and Paul Xenophontas each handling an inning of relief. Ethan Pena led the hit parade for GCC with four hits, four RBI and three runs scored including a triple as the Vaqs scored in eight of the nine innings played including nine runs in the ninth inning. Jayden Rez had three hits including a double and a home run and Izzy Madariaga also had three hits. Gabe Juarez had a pair of doubles and Jackson Benattar, Andrew Cisneros, Ethan Kearney and Alex Dolan also had two hits each.
